Most people only ever see one version of Lana.

Her clients know her as the practitioner who smooths a line, balances a feature they’ve never felt confident about, or helps to improve skin that’s frustrated them for years.

Her patients know an entirely different Lana. The one in scrubs. The nurse who shows up on the hardest days of someone’s life, not the happiest ones.

Almost nobody knows both.

We sat down with Lana to talk about what it’s actually like living inside both of those roles, and why the second one exists at all, when the first one was already a full career on its own.

“It’s Not Because They’re Sick”

You’ve got two jobs that couldn’t be more different on paper. What made you want to run an aesthetics business on top of nursing?

“What I love about it is, it’s different every day,” Lana says. “I love that I’m in charge. And I love that people come to me with something they’re not happy with, something they want help with, and I’m actually able to do that.”

She lists it out almost casually. Skin issues. Acne. Lines and wrinkles. Hyperpigmentation. Lips that feel too thin.

“With an individualised treatment plan, I can help. If I can’t get rid of it completely, I can at least improve it,” she says. “People tend to leave here much happier than when they came in.”

That happiness isn’t an abstract idea for her either.

“It’s just so satisfying when someone gets off the couch after treatment, looks in the mirror, and they’re really happy,” she says. “I’ve had people cry with happiness. I’ve had people say, oh my God, this is amazing.”

The Other Side of the Coin

Here’s where it gets interesting, because Lana isn’t just describing a job she enjoys. She’s describing the opposite of the one she already has.

“As a nurse, I see sick people all day,” she explains. “So it’s nice to be treating someone with a different type of care. It’s not because they’re sick. It’s because it’s something that’s improving something for them, if that makes sense.”

Two rooms. Two versions of care. In one, she’s steadying someone through illness. In the other, someone walks in simply wanting to feel a little more like themselves, and walks out having gotten exactly that.

It would be easy to assume one role feeds the other in some obvious way. Talk to Lana for long enough, and it’s clearer that they simply sit side by side. Different reasons people need her. Same instinct underneath both.

A Day That’s Never the Same Twice

What does an actual day look like for you?

“It depends,” she says, and means it literally.

On a nursing day: wake up, tea, feed the chickens, walk the dog, then into work. Some days that means sorting rotas, annual leave, sickness cover, making sure every patient on the list actually gets seen. Other days she’s out seeing patients herself. Evenings, if a client’s booked in, she comes home, sets up the treatment room, and switches roles entirely before the front door’s even closed behind her.

On a clinic day, the chickens and the dog still come first. Everything else shifts around the day’s bookings instead.

And the bookings themselves never repeat in quite the same pattern. “It might be someone coming in for microneedling, then the next person’s in for dermal filler in their lips or cheeks,” she says. “Then somebody else might be in for a facial, or a skin booster.”

Tomorrow alone, she’s got someone booked for lipolysis under the chin , injections to help reduce fat in that area , followed by a skin consultation for a client dealing with ongoing skin concerns.

“It just is day dependent,” she says, and it’s clear from how she says it that the unpredictability is part of the appeal, not a complaint.

What Ties Both Halves Together

Ask Lana to explain why she runs toward two demanding roles instead of settling into one, and the answer isn’t really about ambition. It’s simpler than that.

In one job, she meets people on the worst days of their lives, and does what she can. In the other, she meets people on an ordinary Tuesday who simply want to feel a bit better about themselves, and she gets to watch that happen in real time, in a single appointment.

Most people would find one of those exhausting enough. Lana seems to have built her week around needing both.

I want to hear from you.

If you’ve ever balanced two very different roles in your own life, tell me how they actually sit together, not just how you manage the schedule.
